VISwijzer 2.0.2

The VISwijzer evaluates fish and seafood available for purchase in the Netherlands based on sustainability criteria. The assessment uses a color-coding system to help consumers make informed choices:

• Blue - Certification: Look for the MSC certification for sustainable fishing and the ASC certification for responsible aquaculture.
• Green - Good Choice: This fish is not overfished and is cultivated with minimal environmental impact.
• Yellow - Second Choice: There are ongoing concerns related to fishing practices or aquaculture methods.
• Red - Avoid: Do not purchase this fish; it is overfished or its catch or farming methods pose significant threats to the environment.

The VISwijzer serves as a practical tool for identifying sustainably sourced fish, making it easier for consumers when shopping at supermarkets or choosing dishes in restaurants.

This initiative is a collaborative effort by the Good Fish Foundation, Stichting De Noordzee (SDN), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
